Glider Restoration
Burn Gliding Club
July 2019

In July 2019, I participated in the restoration of a KA6 glider belonging to a member of the Burn Gliding Club. The KA6 is a vintage glider, primarily constructed from wood and steel, requires meticulous care to maintain its structural integrity and aerodynamic performance. In the above image, I am carefully sanding down the old gel coat and paint layers in the inspector’s workshop. This process is essential for ensuring a smooth and clean surface, which is crucial for the proper adhesion of the new paint. The attention to detail at this stage is vital, as it contributes to the glider’s overall longevity and safety during flight.
